Judd Ranch is honored to be the American Gelbvieh Association's number one breeder and owner of Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction for 2020. Judd Ranch has held the number one spot for 21 of the past 23 years.
Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction represent the very elite of the Gelbvieh breed. Of the 35,643 active cows in the breed, only 5.7 percent qualified as Dams of Merit, and 1.1 percent qualified as Dams of Distinction in 2020. Twenty two Judd Ranch bred females qualified as Dams of Distinction in 2020, and 82 qualified as Dams of Merit, totaling 104 Judd Ranch bred females. Additionally, Judd Ranch owned 22 Dams of Distinction and 73 Dams of Merit, totaling 95 owned females.
The title "Dam of Merit" recognizes cows that meet strict selection criteria including early puberty and conception, regular calving intervals, and above average weaning weights on at least three calves. The "Dam of Distinction" honor recognizes cows that meet the same high standards for superior, long term productivity with at least eight calves.
